Lovers Rock

A family affair

A Family Affair

As if there were no time but the present, they hurriedly made their way along the trail towards the Villas. Scrounging for space and chatting noisily, the troop of about 30 baboons gathered on the huge rock outcropping for a superior vantage point. Whilst the youngsters occupied themselves with frolicking in the foliage, the elders simply sat together captivated in silence. Facing west and immersed in the endless plains of the Serengeti, the clouds parted to reveal the heavens painted a palette of deep reds and light pinks.  The setting sun – an orange orb, sank into the horizon leaving all but dusk to acknowledge itself with pleasing pastel hues.

Evoking the same feelings of gratification it appears primates appreciate the beauty of the sunset much the same as we humans get out of life’s simple pleasures… It would seem we are not that different after all.  The culmination of anticipation, the sunset in all its glory and a special moment shared with loved ones is the perfect ending to the perfect day in one of Africa’s last untamed wilderness.
